Singer Britney Spears will remain under the tutelage of her father, as announced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny.
In the latest development of the ongoing legal battle between Britney Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, for control of Britney’s career and finances, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny upheld Jamie’s guardianship in a hearing on Tuesday.
However, Penny said she would consider future requests for Jamie’s suspension or removal as guardian. Penny also appointed the finance company Bessemer Trust as co-investors, at Britney’s request.
“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,” Britney’s attorney, Samuel Ingham, said at Tuesday’s hearing. “She will not act again if her father is in charge of her career.”
Jamie was named Britney Spears’ curator in 2008 and has been in that position for 12 years, despite the fact that healings are generally temporary and only reserved for “the elderly, the sick and the mentally disabled,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
Britney Spears’ estate is controlled by her father
While Jamie resigned as curator of Britney’s persona in September 2019, he remained curator of her estate, despite the singer’s public desire to be removed from office.
