BMW Introduces New i8 Safety Tools to Be Used in Formula E

BMW, the founder and official partner of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, introduced new i8 safety vehicles to be used in Season 6. The new vehicle, which will be used in season 6 and later competitions, brings some features of its predecessors to the top.

German automaker BMW has announced that they have made a contract extension with the ABB FIA Formula E, so BMW i safety vehicles will be used in races of Season 6 and beyond. However, the company also offers a new design for BMW i8 safety vehicles.

The partnership announcement was made during an event in Mexico City where the new design was also on display. Among the guests of the event, Dr. BMW i Vice President, Product. Andreas Aumann, eMobility, BMW Motorsport Marketing President Pia Schörner, Formula E Chief Executive Jamie Reigle, and Brooklyn Beckham, responsible for the photo shoot of the new vehicle.

The new BMW i safety car takes the features of the previous generation to the next level:
BMW i, which is also the official and co-founder of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, will provide two safety vehicles for the 2019-2020 season: coupe and roadster. Designed by Michael Scully, Head of Design for BMW Group Motorsport, the new safety car takes some of the features of its predecessor to the next level.

Changes to the BMW logo make new vehicles immediately identifiable from the previous ones. The purpose of the new logo is to provide maximum visibility in aerial shots while vehicles are traveling at high speed. However, just like the racing car, the non-reflective, matte black cockpit components have been expanded to cover the entire area around the driver.

The security vehicles used by BMW in previous seasons have been able to win the appreciation of the audience until now.
