Argentina rules out 400 doses of Sputnik V for ‘sabotage’

The Buenos Aires Ministry of Health found that 400 doses of the Russian vaccine against the new coronavirus Sputnik V, sent to the municipality of Olavarría, suffered damage due to a break in the refrigeration chain. Ramiro Borzi, director of the Sanitary Region IX, confirmed the information, according to the newspaper Página / 12, and stressed that all will be discarded.

Authorities will start an investigation process, as sabotage is suspected. Daniel Gollan, Minister of Health of the Argentine capital, declared that a restructuring of the local immunization processes is also planned.

“A series of serious irregularities became evident: the transmission from the security camera that records images from the freezer at 02.50 am was cut and the connection did not return. There were also strange movements around the hospital [Oncológico de Olavarría]”, he details Borzi.

“We were looking forward to it and we are faced with this that we do not really know what it was, whether it is a sabotage or a boycott, but we are taking legal action to advance the investigation.”

Mass vaccination campaign

About 50 doctors have already received the substance, but the rest of the registered team must be redirected to the municipalities of Azul and Tapalqué. Ezequiel Galli, mayor of the city, considered the first to inaugurate an adequate infrastructure for the storage of vaccines, limited himself to commenting last night (4), in an interview with a television network, which will be in charge of justice to find out what happened.

The first 300,000 doses of the vaccine, authorized “on an emergency basis” by the Argentine Ministry of Health, arrived on December 24, 2020, and the immunization campaign against covid-19 in the neighboring country began last Tuesday ( 29), prioritizing health professionals.
