A Chelsea Source Claims Mason Mount’s Move to Liverpool Is “Seriously Possible”

As Mason Mount’s contract negotiations with Chelsea continue to stall, a source in London called a move to Liverpool a “serious opportunity.”

According to Merseyside journalists, Mount is on the radar of the club in connection with the summer transfer, when he will have only 12 months left on his current contract.

Football.london reported that despite extensive extension talks, Mount and Chelsea are no closer to finalizing their negotiations — and there is a “serious possibility” that Liverpool will receive the player.

Chelsea writer Bobby Vincent claims that “Liverpool believes they can lure Mount to Anfield, which will be on a ‘bargain at a reduced price’.

It is reported that various other Premier League clubs have also shown interest in the player, who scored 33 goals and made 37 assists for Chelsea, but Merseyside is considered the most likely destination in the event of a transfer.

In another column, Vincent described Liverpool as the “current favourites” for Mount’s signature, laying a “big foundation” ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United.

A Chelsea source points out that Liverpool have made the most progress on a potential deal and are closely monitoring his situation.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter recently spoke about Mount’s future and whether a summer move is likely to be linked to unresolved contract talks.

“Yes, but I’m not naive,” Potter replied when asked if he would like Mount to stay at Chelsea after the end of this season.

“My feelings for Mason are clear. Firstly, he is a fantastic person, but sometimes this happens.

“They are just complicated, and it’s better for me to talk less about it, let them deal with it and decide what is right for both sides.”

Mount scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win at Anfield in 2021, during a streak that brought the Reds six consecutive league defeats and just one goal.

He has a Champions League winner’s medal in his collection, as he played an influential role in Chelsea’s successful campaign in the 2020/21 season and actively participated in England’s path to the Euro 2020 finals.

Liverpool will almost certainly be looking for several midfielders in the summer transfer window and Mount is likely to be of good value given the limited time remaining on his current contract.

The England international will also provide a welcome boost to the home-grown Reds, as James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are among those likely to leave at the end of the season.
