Without a doubt “Joker” was one of the most impressive and mature films in the entire DC film universe, and we hope that “The Batman” will surprise us with a unique and equally dark and mature style. That’s why we bring you 5 reasons why The Batman should connect with the Joker.
When Joker came out, it shocked viewers and took the movie world by storm. Raising over a billion dollars worldwide, Joaquin Phoenix’s performance breathed new life into the character unlike anything seen before on the big screen.
The success of Joker made everyone wonder if something else could come of this. With Matt Reeves’ The Batman coming out in 2021, fans began to speculate whether the two films could be linked. Joker surprised people, but maybe that success will be used to make a new Batman cinematic universe.
No Origin Story
Batman’s origin story is something that has been seen in almost every version of the character. At this point, people are very familiar with the tragic deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne, and Bruce’s promise that it would lead him to become the Caped Crusader.
By linking The Batman to the Joker, fans will no longer need to see another scene from Waynes’ death, as they already did in the 2019 film.
Building on Success
You can’t argue with the fact that the Joker was a huge success. Between his reign at the box office and his dominance during awards season, it would only make sense to keep the ball going.
By hooking Batman to that wagon, he gives the upcoming movie a boost with fans. People will see that they are connected and will associate the success and quality of Joker with The Batman. No Batman movie needs much help, but it doesn’t hurt either.
Enter an Established World
If The Batman were connected to the Joker, he would have the advantage of an already established universe. Fans would walk into the theater to see The Batman and they would already have an idea of what kind of Gotham City they would be seeing. Many viewers love following a shared universe and seeing all the connections align and come together.
They would know the history and the environment in which Bruce grew up. Viewers would feel connected to the citizens of Gotham because they experienced the events of the past with them.
People like to see a character become a hero due to the actions of a different movie. Having a shared universe can make the movie experience that much more interesting for the viewer.
More Joaquin Phoenix
There aren’t many viewers who are opposed to seeing more of Joaquin Phoenix’s version of the Joker. His performance was impressive and brought viewers to the mind of the Clown Prince of Crime.
He showed a nuance to this character that had not been depicted on screen before and gave insight into society’s treatment of the mentally ill. Seeing his Joker take on Robert Pattinson would be a very exciting prospect.
